Staying married
today is a difficult and tremendous accomplishment.
It takes maturity to understand that even a good marriage
will have bad days. Maturity isn't measured in age as much as it is
measured in how a couple responds to difficulties, lack of passion
and romance, seasons of life with young children, teenagers or
caring for an elderly parent.
Some bad times can stretch for weeks, months, or even
years. It is often easier to say "I want a divorce" or
"I don't love you anymore" than it is to say "We have
a problem that's putting our marriage in jeopardy -- let's work hard
to stay together." It
takes courage to acknowledge the issues that are hurting a marriage,
and most often both spouses need to take responsibility for the
state of their relationship.
All
marriages have good times and bad times. Don't let small issues
develop into large ones by ignoring them.
Ask for help! There are many resources available to partners
who are willing to look at the challenges in their marriage
honestly. Every marriage
relationship has seasons where it could use attention, nurturing and
extra investment.
Make
the investment in your marriage.
Get the help you need to create a strong, loving and vibrant
marriage that will last a lifetime.
