| What
is prayer walking?
Praying on-sight
with insight
Prayer walking is just what
the name implies—walking while praying. For our purposes, prayer walking
is focusing prayer on neighborhoods,
homes, people, businesses, schools, etc., that we encounter while walking.
Why prayer
walk?
It helps us to focus our
prayers and to pray specifically. We sharpen our prayers by concentrating
on specific homes and families. We also fill our city streets with prayer.
Why prayer walk? Because we are the only ones who are exclusively
responsible—we are His body, His co-workers,
His ambassadors, His friends.
Who is
sponsoring this?
Several of the Cheyenne churches of
various denominations are working together
to light our streets with prayer.
Watch and Pray
Jesus tells us in Matthew 26:41 to watch
and pray. Remember to use the eyes of your heart while praying and ask God
to help you see the city with His eyes. He is able to show us what we need
to see and what to pray.
Developing a heart for our
city.
Remember we walk with Jesus. Jesus said in
Matthew 15:32, “I have compassion for these people.” He actually wept
over Jerusalem. So, let’s be “one in heart” with Jesus as we draw
near to the people He loves so much.
Calling on the Lord for our
city
“I looked for a man among them who
would build up the wall and stand before Me in
the gap on behalf of the land.” —Ezekial 22:30
Let us join together and
repair the breaches!
God has said that He is looking for
the very ones who will cry out to Him on behalf
of the people.
How do I sign up at my
church?
Sign up your church to prayer walk
certain streets. Mark them off when you have completed
your prayer walk.
What if my church is not
participating?
If you have talked with your pastor or
prayer coordinator and they are not interested,
you can sign up as an individual by calling Vanita Fowden at 632-6218.
How much time does it take?
Set aside as little as one hour to do a
small section. Or, commit to one hour a week for the two months to pray
over a large area. Start with a small section and sign up for more as you
have time. With several churches
involved, if everyone just does a little, we can accomplish a l a lot. We
can prayer walk our entire city in the next two months.
Walk with a friend
While you can prayer walk by yourself,
you may find it more enjoyable and encouraging
to team up with a friend or family member. Take your children along and
teach them how to pray for our city.
What
to pray
Pray for every building and
person you walk by.
Prayer suggestions:
Pray
for every church in Cheyenne to become a growing, life-giving church.
Pray
that Cheyenne would become a place of refuge for Christians to raise their
children and enjoy their homes in peace.
Pray
for all the people in our region to be
exposed to an understandable presentation
of the gospel. Pray for God to heal the spiritual blindness and bring
people in the knowledge of truth.
Pray
for God to prosper and bless Cheyenne businesses. Pray for financial
blessing and job security for each home you pass.
Pray
that both leaders and individual Christians in Cheyenne will focus on the
absolutes of faith in Jesus Christ and His Word above their particular
church or way of doing things. Pray for healing in relationships and unity
among believers.
Pray
to raise the water level of the Holy Spirit’s activity in the whole
city. Pray for God to bring an enduring spiritual awakening in our city.
Pray
for God to send self-control and faithfulness to the people of our city.
Pray
for responsible people in all positions of authority—for teachers, city
officials, police, pastors and parents. Pray for Godly wisdom.
