Eternal CPR

When Jesus met His disciples after His resurrection, He gave them one Great Commission—the mission of every believer, everyday—"Just as my Father has sent me, so I am sending you." John 20:21. Jesus did not live one way and then command us to live another way. So, the Great Commission is really our everyday commission. It begins in our neighborhood and continues to the ends of the world.

Jesus was asked about the most important commandment, and he gave a simple answer. Love God and love your neighbor—the Great Commandment. We believe that loving God and others should be an everyday kind of thing. That’s what the Everyday Commission and Everyday Commandment is all about.

Thousands of churches around the world have benefited from the practical training of Eternal CPR. "It’s about building intentional relationships with lost people," says Cheyenne Alliance pastor Rick Mann.  "This is practical training for the local church.  It provides everyday tools for every believer."

Our mandate to make disciples who make disciples is clear in Matthew 28:19.  In 2 Timothy 2:2 we are further instructed to "entrust" the good news to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. This is the goal of Eternal CPR--equipping believers to intentionally reach out to pre-Christians in their everyday world.  Outreach is not just an option.

"Well put-together and we liked the presentation and goals.  Got the message across, but was not cluttered.  It was well balanced."-- Warren, PA

As I sat in staff meeting yesterday morning, we were discussing the parallels between physical health and spiritual health.  I'm a nurse in a walk-in clinic and several years ago I worked in the Intensive Care Unit.  It was not at all unusual to have to do CPR on a patient more than once a shift.

Eternal CPR has many similarities to the CPR I did in ICU.

Cardio is essential if the patient is going to live in order to get blood circulating through the body.  For Eternal Life, we must have Christ's blood flowing through us and cleansing us.  It is Christ's life in us that gives us Eternal life.

In ICU, we had to perform chest compressions to keep the blood circulating until the body had enough life to do function on its own.  It is no different in ECPR.  As believers, we have to be God's tool to pump spiritual life into the life of the pre-Christian until they have Christ's life in them.  We do this through relationships.  As we get to know  pre-Christians, we are intentionally speaking (pumping) life into their lives.

Pulmonary is the respiratory part of us that we need to oxygenate our blood.  Without CO2, the ICU patients did not live.  In Eternal CPR, we can't live without the O2 of the Christian life.  I see prayer as being the O2 of the Christian life.  Without prayer our pre-Christian friends are lifeless.  Most, if not all those that come to know Christ had someone praying for their salvation.  In this phase, we must be "blowing" spiritual prayers for those that need to be resuscitated.

Resuscitation is the end result that we hope for.  The patient comes to life.  Reaping is seeing someone come alive spiritually.  It doesn't get any better in the health field than seeing someone who is dying regain life.  The only thing that surpasses this joy is seeing someone replace eternal death with God's eternal life.
